Determining Flex Obligation Hours for Faculty
Full-Time Faculty Members
All Full-Time Faculty members have a base obligation of 28 hours. See below for overload assignments.
Faculty members on sabbatical, and those who are using banked leave to cover part of their load, do not have a flex obligation for the time associated with those leaves.
Adjunct Faculty Members and FT Faculty Members with Overload Assignments
Adjunct and Overload assignments have a flex obligation of 1/2 the hours taught per week. For example, a three unit lecture class has an obligation of 1.5 hours for each semester it is taught.
Only full-term courses (16 week) have a flex obligation associated with the load. Short term sections do not have a flex obligation.
Only Fall and Spring term sections have a flex obligation. There is no flex obligation for summer sections.
